Race for GOLD

Stage is set for the long awaited 2016 Rio Olympics which starts tomorrow in Brazil. 05th August till 21st August in which more than 11,000 athletes will be participating from 206 representing countries to fight for the medals. Host Brazil has the 2nd largest number of athletes 464, participating in this Rio Olympics behind United States, which has the largest fleet of athletes of about 550 athletes. Germany 420, Australia 418 and China 398 has the most number of athletes participating from a single country and has the chance of winning more medals.

Previously if we look back, United States, China and Russia dominated in the last three to four Olympics in terms of medals notably in 2004 to onwards. But in this Olympics it looks like Russia will drop down the table because of the fact that many of the athletes from Russia were disqualified from this year’s Olympics, so it is likely that another country will likely to replace them in the third spot. But the question is who?

It is saying that a country winning more medals is either big or wealthy or sometimes both. In any case, it is likely that with most number of athletes 464, Brazil can compete well for the top three spots and China, United States have to work hard to overcome Brazil for the top 2 spots. Australia and Germany also be in pool position to be in that list because of their sizes of athletes. But it is predicted that behind United States and China, third spot could go towards India’s way who has the capability to win gold medals and it is quite surprising to see a country having 120 number of athletes participating in the Olympics have the chance of coming in the top 5 spots which is quite surprising when you are considering that United States won more than 100 medals and India won only 6 in the last London Olympics. But we can’t rule out the possibility because they have some good players who can win medals. If we consider the sports culture factor in which how many countries do invested in the sports side in order to win Olympic medals then we can say that Russia do have a chance of finishing in the third spot despite of the ban on most of their athletes. Japan, UK, Germany also have a slight of being in the pool position so we can’t rule out any of them. But these are all predictions we cannot say that this is what exactly will happened and because of that anything can happen in the world of sports. So enjoy Olympics and have fun in these exciting events of sports.
