Bayer Leverkusen earned their first win of the season after suffering a 2-1 defeat in their opening match over Borussia Monchengladbach. Hat-trick hero Pohjanpalo stole the show as Bayer 04 came from 1-0 behind to beat Hamburger SV by 3-1.
Bayer Leverkusen suffered an early setback when Karim Bellarabi forced to go off in the couple of minutes of the first half after a suspected groin strain but they established an early grip on the encounter.
Admir Mehmedi and Nicolai Muller had the best chances of the games but both missed their chance to put their teams ahead in the first half.
It was Hamburg who broke the deadlock in the second half when Bernd Leno failed to cut out Maichel Gregoritsch's through ball allowing Bobby Wood to slot into an empty net in the 59th minute.
But it was substitute who made the difference as Pohjanpalo's eleven minutes hat-trick ensure Leverkusen's first home game of the season ended in victory.
All eyes were on striker Chicharito who starts the mach but it was super-sub Pohjanpalo who dominates the headline after coming off the bench to score three stunning goals to put the game to bed.
Pohjanpalo is the third Levekusen player who scored in his first two games for the club, but neither Ulf Kirsten 1990-91, nor Burak Kaplan 2009-10 managed the feat as super-sub.
Here are the highlights of the match between Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburger SV.
