Pep Guardiola emerged victorious in his first Premier League derby against his old adversary Jose Mourinho as Manchester City secured a fully deserved 2-1 win against Manchester United in a fantastic derby match at Old Trafford.
This fixture was also ringed on the calendar after the announcement of the fixture simply because of the fact that fierce rival ex-Real Madrid and ex-Barcelona managers face each other again in the highly contested derby.
Guardiola will have been delighted with the team with the way they played throughout the match, specially in the first half, when they played some excellent football with their passing and movement leaving United's midfield including world-record Pogba as merely passengers.
Mourinho brought in Harrera and Rashford after the first half after nightmare display from new-signing Mkhitaryan and Lingard. City survived an improved second half United performance to maintain their 100% record under new manager Pep Guardiola.
City started the first half brightly with Kevin de Bruyne scored the opening goal in the 15th minute after Daley Blind's aweful defending that made clear-cut chance for De Bruyne to take the lead and he slotted the ball past De Gea.
Second City goal came in the 36th minute when Bailly weak clearance gives De Bruyne the ball which he struck against the post but Iheonacho was their to tap in the rebound after some static defending by the United's defense.
In the 42nd minute to the game, Caudio Bravo's error gives United the chance to reduce the deficit after the ball went off the keeper's hand straight into the path of Ibrahimovic who puts the ball with the first time shot.
Guardiola said after the match: "We are happy. I think the spectators enjoyed it because it was open until the end. First half we were better. In the second half it was difficult. We had counter-attacks and we didn't finish".
"The two halves were completely different. In the first half we below the level to play this match. You have to be completely ready in terms of the speed of your thinking and decision-making", Mourinho said.
Guardiola extended his record against Mourinho with eight wins in 17 meetings between the two. Yesterday win was City's 50th victory against United in all competition.
Both teams kick off their European campaigns midweek, with Manchester City hosting Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Manchester United travel to Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday.
