Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly blocked a move from Inter Milan to sign Matteo Darmian, as he sees the Italian wing-back has a big part to play at United.
The former Torino man was considering his future in the summer window, with AS Roma and Napoli appeared to be the possible suitors, but it was Inter Milan who pushed ahead in an attempt to sign the defender.
It is reported that Mourinho likes the Italian wing-back because of his versatility but he will have a hard time to find his starting minutes at United. Inter, Juventus and Fiorentina will all reportedly go for the player in the next winter transfer window, but the manager is willing to keep the player.
Darmian will have to fight hard to earn his place back at United as Antonio Valenica at the right-back has turned in some fine performances in the opening matches of the Premier League season. Indeed, Valencia has been one of the standout players in the Premier League so far this season after being sidelined for a longer time-period in the last season.
The Italian Darmian was impressive early on in his United career with some good consistent performances, but some injury problems halted his momentum, and then never been able to get going after that. The Italy international can operate on either flanks and can become a kind of player Mourinho loved to have in his side when he is on song. The chances are that he will remain at United and will be used throughout the season.
