Atletico Madrid have
splashed 32 Million Euros on the 29 years old French international Kevin
Gameiro from Sevilla and many pundits are surprised about this Atletico move as
they were constantly knocks the door of their former striker Diego Costa, who currently
played for Chelsea. Diego Costa was linked with the La Liga giants many times
in this transfer window but I think they made a wise move in securing the
signature of Gameiro over Diego Costa and let’s analyze why he could be a good
signing for Atletico Madrid over Diego Costa.
Ø Kevin Gameiro scored 68 times in all competitions for
Sevilla for the last three seasons and has been pivotal for Sevilla in securing
the remarkable Europa League title for the last three consecutive seasons and
becoming the main man in the capital.
Ø Diego Simone is right in moving forward rather than
looking back by signing Diego Costa as Costa might have been a fantastic
forward once in a while but that time has passed now. He was struggling in the
last season with Chelsea and could not be able to continue with the form he
showed in his first season with Chelsea in the 2014-15 season. Because of that
he was also omitted from the Spanish squad in the Euro 2016.
Ø Gameiro is a goal poacher, a finisher and has the
ability to convert the slightest of chances that comes in his way and that is
what Atletico needs right now because they want a striker who can score with
the few opportunities and also he is also in his top form, despite being omitted
from Euro 2016 France squad.
Ø Gameiro has the desire and the hunger to be recognized
at the top level and he wants to achieve big things with Atletico and can help
them to achieve it. Costa has already achieved trophies with Atletico and now
its time for the new man’s turn.
