Sri lanka registered their first win in the ODI series against Australia to level the 5-match series 1-1.
Aponso four wickets in the match helped the Sri Lankans to win by a comprehensive 82 runs margin.
Australia bowled out for only 206 runs with Matthew Wade being the only lone warrior scoring 76 runs for his side. The Australian top order collapsed agaisnt some well disciplined bowling led by Amila Aponso, who bags 4 wickets for 18 runs. Captain Angelo Matthews and Thisara Perera also pick of the bowlers taking two wickets for 17 and three wickets for 33 respectively.
Wade and Travis Head's partnership for the sixth wicket is the stand-out performance in the Australian batting as they added 64 runs for the sixth wicket before Wade got out on 76 by Perera.
Earlier, James Faulkner becomes the sixth Australian to take a hat-trick in the second one-day international. Sri Lanka managed to score 288 runs before being bowled out in the 49th over thanks to the half-centuries from Angelo Mathews, Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera.
Adam Zampa, Mitchel Starc and James Faulkner claimed three wickets to close down the hosts as they were cruising for a big total at one stage at 258-5. But still 288 were enough to defend for the hosts as they won comprehensively by 82 runs and levelled the series 1-1.
Angelo Mathews were awarded the MOTM award for his all-round performance. The third ODI will be played on 28th August.
