Yesterday’s Champions
League play-off between Porto and Roma ended in a 1-1 draw in the 1st
leg and now Porto have all to do in the second leg because of the goal they have
been conceded at home in a 1-1 draw.
Spaletti’s men looking to
reach at the Champions League group stage for the third consecutive time, and
took a 21st minute lead with an own goal, when Porto defender Felipe
put the ball into his own net. Roma debutant Thomas Vermaelen sent off just
before half time with two yellow cards.
Andre Silva scored from the
penalty spot to level the match, but Roma held on to draw the match with the
crucial away goal taken with them.
In an another highly
anticipated fixture, it was Monaco who came out on top against the Spanish side
Villarreal, beating them 2-1 in the first leg through Bernardo Silva’s winner.
Monaco looked to bounce back from losing at this stage to Valencia a year ago.
Monaco took the lead in the
third minute thanks to Fabinho Penalty spot, which later on in the 36th
minute, debutant Alexandre Pato equalizer put the match level at half time.
Tom Rogic, Leigh Griffiths , Moussa Dembele and Scott Brown were all among the goals as Brenden Rodgers side put on a superb display to beat Israel outfits Hapoel Beer Sheva 5-2 at Parkhead.
