James Rodriguez, a player
who was the golden boot winner in the 2014 World Cup, scoring six goals for
Colombia and also one of his goals was awarded as the best goal of the
tournament was at that times one of the best young talents and hottest property
in world football.
Because of his performances
with Monaco and Columbia, Real Madrid decided to go for him and signed him from
Monaco for reportedly £63m.
Rightly so he was that kind
of a player and in that kind of form who might go for more than £63m but not less than a single penny.
He was exceptional in his
first season, scoring goals at Santiago Bernabeu, creating chances at will and
on top of that becomes the pivotal player for Los Blancos.
But just after Rafa arrived,
shuffle of position comes in and his position had been changed. Sometimes, he
plays at ring wing, sometimes left, attacking midfield and then they try to put
him on a more defensive central role which hugely effects his game. He could
not be able to perform the way he performed in his first season and ultimately lost
his place from the side which was surprising for many considering the quality
and potential he has got.
There was a more shock arrived
recently about him when Real Madrid was without Benzema, Ronaldo, Bale, Modric
and Kross in the European Super Cup against Sevilla and it was understood that
he will lead the attacking role, but when the team announce, Asensio, Isco and
Kovacic were preferred over Columbian, players who perform a similar role to
him.
And Lucas Vazquez who,
while it might not seem so, is actually holding down James’ old position.
Rodriquez did make an appearance in that match but as a third substitute,
replacing Kovacic, who requested to be substituted because of injury.
- The reason of his demise is that, he’s got a problem to deal with, the so-called BBC (Bale, Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo), which forced Madrid to play as 4-3-3 without an attacking midfielder.
- Another reason is that he hasn’t reacted to his situation like other did, making sure a chance comes and prove others about his potential when the moment is arrived.
- Third reason is that he has become the source of tension between Zidane and Florentino. Florentino is positive about him as he wants him to stay and doesn’t want to sell him at any cost, but on the other hand, Zidane tells Perez to go for Pogba and let James go and move to another club.
These kinds of things
really effects his game and on top of that as the transfer window drawing to a
close he might lose to stay at Madrid which is not good for a player who has
still a price tag of more than £70m
will spend his next season on bench.
