It’s all down to West Indies test which will decide the fate of two arch rivals India and Pakistan for the No.1 spot. Fourth test between India and West Indies is now have all the importance because this test is the destination to decide, whether Pakistan or India will get the ICC test shield and become the new No.1 test team.
Australia’s third test
loss against Sri Lanka means they will lose their No.1 spot as
they lost the series by a devastating 3-0 whitewash against Sri Lanka.
India has now a great
chance to become new No.1 test team because they are 2-0 up in the 4-match test
series and if they win the fourth test, then surely they become the new No.1
test team, but remember if they lost the test or draw, it will be Pakistan who
will crown as No.1.
Steve Smith’s men
whitewashed today against Sri Lanka as they lost the final test
against Sri Lanka by 163 runs.
Earlier today, the home
team batted on with their overnight score of 312/8 before they declare their 2nd innings
on 347/8 adding another 35 valuable runs.
Chasing 324 in the
final day, Australia were bowled out for 160 before tea session as Rangana Herath takes
seven wickets in the 2nd innings, giving him match figures of
13 wickets and he has a total of 28 victims in this 3-match series.
Before the series
starts, Australia was ranked as No.1 and Sri Lanka as No.7 in the ICC test ranking.
Before this
series, Australia only loss against Sri Lanka at tests way back in 1999 when Sanath Jayasuria captaining the side for Sri Lanka. Other than that, Australia was never beaten by Sri Lanka and now they have lost four tests against
them.
Australia made a good
start in their chase for 324 and they went on to lunch at 77/1, losing Shaun
Marsh in the final over of the session for 23. They were comfortable at 100/1
but then wickets started to get tumbled as Aussies lost the plot losing five
wickets for just 23 runs in 39 balls.
38-year old leg spinner Rangana Herath put the Aussies away from the box seat
with a huge double breakthrough, dismissing Steve Smith on 4 and Adam Voges on 1 in the 27th over.
Only Batsman stands firm
was David Warner who got out for 68. The last nine wickets fell for just 60
runs for the visitors.
Mitchell Starc gets
seven wickets in the match in a series tally of 24 victims which is the highest
for a visiting pace bowler in a test series in Sri Lanka.
Focus is now on India-West Indies test as this test will decide which team will be the new No.1 test team.
