In the World Cup 2018 qualifier match between El Salvador and Mexico, it was Mexico who came out on top after a hard fought victory over their opponents.
Mexico defeated El Salvador 3-1 in the CONCACAF qualifying match for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Friday night at the Estadio Cuscatian in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Mexico was already sitting comfortable in Group A with four wins out of four, and El Tri had an eight point lead over second place Honduras before coming into this match.
The last time Mexico played competitively was during the Copa America, when Chile ended their 23-match unbeaten run with a 7-0 thrashing.
El Salvador haven't been able to win from any of their four matches of the Group A qualifying round and Mexico expected to get back to its winning ways.
The home side managed to make things uncomfortable for the visitors when Jorge Torres Nilo conceded a penalty after handling the ball in the box. Alexander Larin scored from the penalty spot to give El Salvador an unlikely lead.
After an expected first half, Mexico finally found an equalizer in the 52nd minute via Hector Moreno, off a perfectly placed free kick and Moreno redirected the cross into the back of the net.
Angel Sepulveda, who was making his debut for the national team, scored second to take the lead just six minutes after the first goal.
Raul Jimenez in the 73rd minute scored from the penalty spot to seal the match Maxico. They will now face Honduras in their final match before begin preparing for the final round of qualifying as they won all five of its matches in Round 4.
