Pakistan retain their No.3
spot in the ICC test ranking after beating England at the Oval in the fourth
and final test of the series by 10 wickets.
However, Pakistan can climb to No.1
position in the ICC ranking, if results in Sri Lanka and West Indies goes their
way. Earlier, Oval result scampered England chance of climbing to the top of
the spot.
If Sri Lanka beat Australia by 2-0 or 3-0, and if India beat West
Indies by 2-0 or 2-1, then Pakistan will be No.1 in the ICC ranking.
Earlier
today, Pakistan beat England by 10 wickets to finish the series 2-2. Pakistani
openers Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam chased down the total of 40 runs and Ali hits
the winning runs with a six on the Pakistan’s National Independence Day.
England were bowled out for 253 in their fourth innings, courtesy of Yasir Shah’s
five wickets. Following the series draw, Pakistan and England both maintain
with their pre-series points of 111 and 108, respectively.
The highest Pakistan
has ever achieved is 2nd spot last year, when they beat England at
UAE.
Scenarios:
Australia No.1: Australia needs to
win Colombo Test and West Indies needs to win or draw Port of Spain Test.
Pakistan No.1: Sri Lanka and West Indies need to
win or draw Colombo and Port of Spain Tests, respectively.
India No.1: India needs to win Port of Spain Test.
